Starting her career in accounting and academia, for the past 14 years, as Founder, Managing Director and CEO of the SMSF Association, Andrea has built a national and international reputation as a prime mover in building Australia’s superannuation and retirement income systems to be the third best in the world.
Her passion for the SMSF industry and its self-regulation is the reason for the SMSF Association’s inception. She has been described by the Prime Minister, the Treasurer, the Deputy Director of the Treasury and the Australian Tax Office Commissioner as one of the most influential players in the SMSF, superannuation and financial services industries, acknowledged as ‘saving’ the SMSF sector and helping to generate wealth for millions of Australians enjoying a higher standard of living in retirement.
Andrea’s Non Executive Director appointments include Clean Energy Finance Corporation, Argo Global Listed Infrastructure, Adelaide Oval Stadium Management Authority (Alternate) and the South Australia Cricket Association. Her advisory appointments include the Tim Costello and World Vision, the Australian Government’s Innovation and Investment Partnership and Peak Superannuation Advisory Group and the Australian Treasury’s Industry Consensus Working Group.
Andrea’s career highlights include being awarded 'Australian Woman of the Year in Financial Services' 2014, nominated for 'Australian of the Year' in 2017 and a finalist in the 'Telstra Business Women’s Awards' (SA) 2016 and was awarded 'AFL Mother of the Year' in 2009.
She holds a Masters in Commerce from the University of South Australia, and designations including SMSF Specialist Advisor, a Fellow of the Australian institute of Company Directors, a CPA and CPA Financial Planning Specialist.
Andrea, an accomplished presenter and facilitator, was invited to present at the Australian Tax Summit in 2012 and was part of the Prime Minister’s Ministerial delegation to China in 2013 and 2014. Here that she engaged the Chinese Government’s interest in knowing more about the Australian retirement system and what it can offer China as that country comes to terms with an aging population. She has also presented on retirement income strategies in Europe (to the United Nations), US, UK and Vietnam.
Andrea is an accomplished media commentator, particularly advocating strongly for women and small business. She was awarded the Invisible Government Award in 2015 as judged by the Financial Services Media as the most trusted Australian spokesperson.
